Do you need a B2B podcasting glossary? We think it can’t hurt. Why? Because B2B podcasting has its own language.

Spend five minutes talking to a podcast producer, content marketer, or SEO strategist and you’ll hear terms like GEOpodfadepipeline attributionICP, and ABM thrown around as if everyone knows what they mean.

That’s why we created this glossary.

Whether you’re launching your first B2B show, briefing a production partner, reporting results to a stakeholder, or simply trying to understand the conversations happening around podcast strategy, these are the 30 B2B podcast terms you need to know

A

ABM (Account-Based Marketing)

Account-Based Marketing (ABM) is a B2B marketing strategy that focuses sales and marketing efforts on a carefully selected list of high-value target accounts instead of trying to reach the widest possible audience.

For B2B podcasts, ABM influences everything from guest selection to topic planning. Rather than interviewing anyone interesting, you intentionally feature decision-makers from companies you’d like to work with or create episodes that solve the problems your ideal buyers face.

AEO (Answer Engine Optimisation)

The practice of structuring content so that it is selected and surfaced by AI-powered answer engines. For podcasters, AEO means publishing transcripts, structured show notes, and clearly organized episode pages that AI systems can read, extract from, and cite. Often used interchangeably with GEO.

Attribution

The process of connecting a business outcome – a new lead, a closed deal, a pipeline opportunity – to the marketing activity that influenced it. Podcast attribution can be challenging because listening usually happens outside traditional website analytics. The most reliable methods include CRM tagging of podcast-influenced contacts, “how did you hear about us?” fields on inbound forms, and direct guest-to-pipeline tracking.

Audiogram

An audiogram is a short video clip that combines podcast audio with simple visuals such as waveforms, captions, guest photos or branded graphics.

Audiograms are widely used to promote episodes on LinkedIn, Instagram and other social platforms, particularly for audio-only podcasts.

We dig deeper into audiograms here.

B

Batch Recording

Batch recording is the practice of recording multiple podcast episodes during a single session instead of recording one episode at a time.

This approach reduces the hidden costs of podcast production, including setup, preparation and context switching, while making publishing schedules much easier to maintain.

Branded Podcast

A podcast produced and published by a company or brand, typically as part of a broader content marketing or demand generation strategy. Branded podcasts are distinct from independent podcasts in that they are explicitly connected to a business, and the show exists to build authority, generate pipeline, and serve an audience of potential or existing clients.

C

Chapters / Timestamps

Chapters, sometimes called timestamps, divide a podcast episode into clearly labelled sections that listeners can jump between.

Platforms like Spotify and Apple Podcasts support chapter markers, while timestamps in your show notes provide a similar experience on your website.

Chapters improve the listener experience while also making episode content easier to understand, navigate and reference.

Completion Rate

Completion rate measures how much of an episode listeners consume before they stop listening.

Unlike download numbers – which only tell you someone started an episode –completion rate provides insight into how engaging your content actually is.

Content Editing

A form of podcast editing that goes beyond technical audio cleanup to shape the listener experience. It involves shaping the conversation itself by removing unnecessary tangents, improving pacing, tightening explanations and ensuring the strongest moments appear where they’ll have the greatest impact. Content editing is distinct from audio editing, and not all podcast editors offer it.

CRM (Customer Relationship Management)

A platform used to manage relationships with prospects, leads, and customers, with HubSpot, Salesforce, and Pipedrive being common examples. For B2B podcasters, the CRM is where podcast influence becomes measurable. Guest interactions, podcast-driven leads and opportunities can all be tracked alongside other marketing activities. A podcast without CRM integration is a podcast that can’t prove its ROI.

D

DAI (Dynamic Ad Insertion)

Dynamic Ad Insertion (DAI) is technology that inserts advertisements into podcast episodes when they’re downloaded or streamed, rather than embedding them permanently into the recording.
It’s commonly used by large consumer podcasts that generate advertising revenue.

Download

The metric most podcast hosting platforms report as a primary measure of reach. It represents the number of times an episode file has been requested from a server.

While downloads remain useful, they shouldn’t be treated as the primary measure of success for a B2B podcast.

G

GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is the practice of optimising content so AI-powered search tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google Gemini and Microsoft Copilot can find it, understand it and reference it in generated answers.

For podcasters, GEO means publishing more than just an audio file. Human-reviewed transcripts, structured show notes, descriptive headings and well-optimised episode pages all give AI systems the context they need to surface your content.

Guest-to-Pipeline Conversion

Guest-to-pipeline conversion measures how often podcast guests become genuine business opportunities, whether that’s entering your CRM, starting a sales conversation or eventually becoming customers.
Unlike audience growth metrics, this focuses on commercial outcomes.

I

ICP (Ideal Client Profile)

An Ideal Client Profile (ICP) defines the type of company or buyer your business is best positioned to serve. An ICP typically considers factors such as industry, company size, revenue, organisational structure, buying behaviour and the challenges a business is trying to solve.

In B2B podcasting, the ICP should determine your guest selection, your topic choices, and your distribution strategy. A podcast built without a clear ICP tends to attract a broad, unconverted audience rather than a targeted, commercially valuable one.

L

LLMO (Large Language Model Optimization)

Large Language Model Optimization (LLMO) is another term for optimizing content so it can be understood and referenced by AI models such as ChatGPT and Perplexity. Sometimes used interchangeably with GEO and AEO, though LLMO tends to emphasise the technical underpinning (large language models) rather than the user experience (answer engines).

M

Metadata

Metadata is the structured information attached to a podcast episode that helps platforms and search engines understand what the content is about.
This includes elements such as your episode title, description, guest name, keywords, episode number and chapter markers.

Mini-Series

A mini-series is a planned sequence of podcast episodes focused on a single topic or theme, usually published over three to five consecutive episodes. Rather than covering a broad subject in one conversation, a mini-series allows you to explore different aspects in greater depth.

P

Pipeline Attribution

Pipeline attribution is the process of identifying which podcast interactions contributed to opportunities in your sales pipeline.
Those interactions might include someone appearing as a guest, listening to multiple episodes before booking a demo, or discovering your business through podcast content before engaging with your sales team.

Pipeline Influence

Pipeline influence looks beyond direct attribution to measure every point where your podcast helped move a prospect closer to becoming a customer. A buyer may not have discovered your business through the podcast, but they may have listened to several episodes during the decision-making process, shared an episode internally, or built trust in your expertise over time.

Podfade

The common phenomenon in which a podcast publishes consistently for a period, before gradually slowing and eventually going silent. Podfade is almost always caused by a production process that isn’t sustainable. It is the most common outcome for B2B podcasts that launch without a clear operational plan.

Production Partner

An external team or agency that handles the post-production elements of a podcast: audio editing, video editing, show notes, transcripts, publishing, and repurposing. A production partner differs from a full-service podcast agency in that the client retains strategic ownership of the show while the partner handles execution, although the term ‘production partner’ can also reference a full-service podcast agency.

R

Repurposing

Repurposing is the process of turning a single podcast episode into multiple pieces of content across different channels.
One conversation might become blog posts, LinkedIn articles, newsletters, audiograms, short-form videos, quote graphics, email campaigns or sales enablement assets.

RSS Feed

The technical backbone of podcast distribution, your RRS feed is a standardized file that contains the metadata and audio files for every episode of a show, which podcast directories (Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts) use to syndicate and update the show automatically. Every podcast has an RSS feed, and most podcast hosting platforms generate and manage it automatically.

S

Sales Cycle Velocity

Sales cycle velocity measures how quickly prospects move from their first interaction with your business to becoming customers.
In B2B sales, where buying decisions often involve multiple stakeholders and long decision-making processes, shortening the sales cycle can have a significant impact on revenue.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

The practice of optimizing content to rank in traditional search engine results, primarily Google. For B2B podcasters, SEO applies specifically to episode pages: the title, show notes, transcript, headings, and internal links that help Google understand and rank the page for relevant queries. Strong SEO on episode pages turns a podcast back catalogue into a permanent source of organic traffic.

Show Notes

Podcast show notes are the written content published alongside a podcast episode. In B2B podcasting, show notes are one of the most important and most underused marketing assets available. When written as standalone content – with a keyword-optimised title, structured headings, and genuine insight extracted from the conversation — show notes rank in search, get cited by AI tools, and generate organic traffic long after the episode goes live.

T

Transcript

A full written record of a podcast episode’s spoken content. While transcripts improve accessibility for listeners, they’re also one of the most valuable assets you can publish alongside your podcast.

V

Video Podcast

A podcast that is recorded and published with a video component. Video podcasting is increasingly standard for B2B shows because YouTube is the most cited audio and video source across search engines and AI search tools. A video podcast can also generate significantly more distribution surface area than an audio-only show.

W

Watch Page

A dedicated page on a podcast’s website that embeds the video version of an episode alongside the transcript, show notes, and metadata. Watch pages are particularly important for GEO, because they provide AI systems with both the video content (indexed via YouTube) and the full text context (indexed via the website) for the same episode. Google’s own guidance recommends watch pages as best practice for audio and video content discoverability.

Still Learning the Language?

The terminology is the easy part. What separates B2B podcasts that generate real pipeline from the ones that don’t is the system behind the show: the production process, the content strategy, and the team that makes sure every episode goes out on time, sounds great, and has the transcripts, show notes, and distribution assets it needs to do its job.

At We Edit Podcasts, we handle the full production back end for B2B brands – from audio and video editing to human-reviewed transcripts and SEO-optimised show notes – so that every episode you publish is built to be found, shared, and attributed.
