Founder’s Corner #30 How Do You Stay True To Your “Big Why” in The Long Run?

Today, I want to talk about the Big Why. It’s such a common phrase. And there are plenty of strategies and resources to help you find your big why. But what happens after you’ve honed in your big why? After the initial momentum wears off? How do you stay true to your big why in the long run?

That’s exactly what I want to talk about today!

But first…

The Founder’s Corner posts are based on previous segments from our weekly newsletter. So if you want this type of content first, check out the link at the end of this post!

Now, let’s dive into today’s post!

How Do You Stay True To Your “Big Why” in The Long Run?

how to stay true to your big why in the long run

As we hone in on the topic of finding your big why, a key question has emerged for me:

Once you’ve found it, how do you stay true to your podcast brand or your big “why” in the long run?

When it comes to podcasting, building your brand around what you value rather than what you believe is key! In fact, with how fast the industry changes, this is essential for long-term success and long-standing resonance with your audience.

Beliefs in the podcasting realm can sometimes be fixed notions about what content should be produced, how it should be presented, or who the target audience should be.

However, in a rapidly evolving industry like podcasting, these beliefs may become outdated or even limiting!

But when you focus on what you value in your podcasting journey—whether it’s authenticity, empathy, knowledge sharing, creativity, or community building—you create a foundation that’s adaptable and always resonant.

Your values then serve as guiding principles that inform your content, your interactions with your audience, and your overall approach to your podcast, regardless of how the landscape changes.

Now, how does this affect your authenticity?

Aligning your podcast brand with your values will help you foster greater authenticity and connection with your audience.

This authenticity builds trust and loyalty over time, as your audience recognizes and appreciates the sincerity behind who you are and the content you’re sharing.

And what about growth?

A podcast brand built around values rather than fixed beliefs actually increases your opportunity for growth, as it gives you the freedom and flexibility to pivot and expand with the ever-changing podcast landscape.

So, how do we take action and make this shift?

Let’s dive into these three anchoring actions for building your podcasting brand around what you value:

Steps for Staying True to Your Big Why

1. Identify

First things first, let’s get introspective. Take some time to reflect on what truly matters to you in your podcasting journey.

Is it authenticity, empathy, knowledge sharing, or perhaps community building?

Whatever it may be, jot down those core values that light your podcasting fire – your big why!

2. Align

Now that you’ve identified your values, it’s time to weave them into the fabric of your podcast.

From the topics you tackle to the way you engage with your audience, let what you value shine through. Be genuine, be empathetic, and above all, stay true to what matters most to you.

3. Uphold

The final piece is to hold fast to what you value for the long run.

This will be your North Star, guiding you through the highs and lows of your podcast story.

Your Values Support Your Big Why

By following these anchoring steps, you can build a podcast brand that is grounded in what you value, resonates deeply with your audience, and endures over time.

Remember: Crafting a podcast brand rooted in your values isn’t just about building a brand—it’s about building a legacy.
